Healthaire SUPERVENTILATION - Creating Healthy HomesFurther Reading

leaky HOUSE syndromeIn mid 2002, due to the Leaky House syndrome (wet buildings and rotting, untreated timbers) everyone has now become more aware of the health issues caused by damp and mouldy home interiors. Sub-standard housing has become all too common, along with use of inappropriate building materials. Designs styles have been adopted which are not appropriate for our environment. Read the news...

On TV2’s "Carters' My House, My Castle", a segment was featured that examined ‘before’ and ‘after’ results in a house with a devastating and atypical moisture problem which was built with insufficient drainage around the site. As a result, the interior soon became mouldy and wet; the walls in one room actually dripping. Under the house a small stream formed whenever it rained, and water stood in puddles from lack of proper drainage.

Three weeks after Healthaire SUPER VENTILATION was installed, the mould had disappeared and the walls were dry. Moisture readings in the wall studs dropped from 33% to less than 20%. The owner is now comfortable at home and very much happier. The problem of water streaming under his house still persists, but the interior is warm and dry. Of course, Healthaire cannot cure a leaky building, but it will certainly help to dry out the home and improve the quality of the air within, even in seemingly hopeless situations.

is HEALTHAIRE an air conditioner? It is important to understand that Healthaire SUPER VENTILATION is not an “air conditioner” in the accepted way that this term is usually understood. The classic air conditioning system comprises various pumps, chillers and heaters, combined in the one unit, to recycle the air and either slowly heat the air, or slowly chill it. It also works only in the specific area into which it is installed.

It is well recognised that air conditioning is expensive to purchase, very costly to run, and potentially rather bad for one’s health. However air conditioning will modify an internal atmosphere, either cooling or warming it. Air-conditioning does not dehumidify during its warm cycle (used in winter), the very time that dehumidifying is most required, nor will it clean the air supply, and consequently it will not rid the cycled air of carbon dioxide, dust, pollen, odours, mould, mycotoxins, endotoxins, moisture, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), smoke or vehicle fumes - or even replace used oxygen. Healthaire SUPER VENTILATION does all of this.

PPV in-line HEATERSA Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) system which uses electric heating to warm roof space air when the sun is not available, intending to use it to raise indoor temperature, is uneconomical. The heated roof air travels through cold ducting, cooling rapidly on the way, then enters the home. Very little net gain in heat is achieved by such means; far better to spend the same money directly heating the air in the rooms.

The cost to run a 2 kilowatt heater (most commonly used for in-line heating) is about 40 cents per hour, which completely nullifies the high efficiency of PPV systems with running costs of less than 8 cents per day, $2.50 per month for Healthaire SUPER VENTILATION. View more details here.

There is also a potential danger of placing heaters into any PPV system. The build-up of dust around the heater and the potential for arcing (fire hazard) due to increased amperage are a real concern. Therefore it is preferable that heaters not be installed in roof cavities.
